Memory Palace
A Different Twin from Reality
How can physical loci techniques be applied in virtual reality for better semantic memory recall?
Cognitive Mapping
Cognitive mapping reflects a human's ability to distill complex environments into meaningful abstractions, emphasizing relevance over detail. In contrast, computer vision offers a precise, data-driven model, enabling measurements and analyses. Space for us has always been a blend of both subjective interpretation with objective accuracy to inform design, analysis, and storytelling.
Semantic Memory
Semantic memory aids in spatial understanding by categorizing and abstracting elements into structured knowledge, allowing humans to map spaces conceptually and relate them to broader systems, such as a park within an urban grid. Subjective meaning is imbued into objective realities (an apartment layout), and ultimately aids in our perception, navigation, and conceptualization of spaces.

Categorizing Types of Memories
How can familiar spaces in VR be designed to encourage and improve semantic associations?
Spatial and Sensorial Integration
Engaging with users' senses and spatial awareness, VR assists in anchoring semantic memories in embodied experiences (e.g., recall historical events by "walking through" a timeline, and grabbing objects from the periodic table to reinforce declarative knowledge).
Objects and images were placed in areas of my bedroom and living room where I would spend most of my time in which provides greater contextual immersion in my memory palace.
